Post-qualifying Valtteri Bottas has been handed a 3-place grid penalty for impeding.
After qualifying had finished Red Bull referred Valtteri Bottas to the race stewards for impeding Daniel Ricciardo during Q2. The incident in question occurred whilst the Finn was out on the intermediate tyres and lapping much slower than the rest of the field. Ricciardo radioed in to the team to complain about Bottas holding him up as he tried to push for a faster lap time.
Now, Bottas will have to start tomorrow’s Malaysian Grand Prix down in eighteenth, moving behind the Lotus’ of Grosjean and Maldonado and the Sauber of Sutil.
This was not the only post-race penalty dealt out by the Stewards at the Malaysian Grand Prix, as Jean-Eric Vergne was charged with a €1,000 fine for speeding in the pit lane on two occasions.
