How the 2014 Formula One drivers championship can be won by either Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

It’s the final round of this years Formula One World Championship and both Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg can still clinch the title.

Lewis Hamilton has held the championship lead over his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg since the Singapore Grand Prix back in September when Rosberg was forced to retire. Since then Lewis has won three Grand Prix’s (Japan, Russia & USA) compared to Nico’s one (Brazil), meaning the Brit carries the lead into the final round.

However as Rosberg was able to reduce that lead to 17 points back in Brazil, and the controversial double points in Abu Dhabi, the title is still all to play for…

For today’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Rosberg has done all he can do and qualify on pole position. Unfortunately for the German, Lewis lines up alongside him on the grid.

How Lewis Hamilton can win the 2014 Formula One drivers championship in Abu Dhabi:

  • If Hamilton finishes ahead of Rosberg, Lewis will take the title
  • If Rosberg wins, Hamilton must finish in second place
  • If Rosberg finishes in second, Hamilton needs to finish in fifth or higher
  • If Rosberg finishes in third, Hamilton needs to finish in sixth or higher
  • If Rosberg finishes in fourth, Hamilton needs to finish in eighth or higher
  • If Rosberg finishes in fifth, Hamilton needs to finish in ninth or higher
  • If Rosberg finishes in sixth or lower, Hamilton will win the title even if he finishes outside the points
