With the fastest lap by one tenth of a second, Rosberg topped FP2 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
With a super lap to go with his supersoft tyres, Rosberg broke into the 1:41s to take the top spot from team-mate Hamilton. Lewis had taken the early advantage on the softs, but his German garage mate had the upper hand after the switch. Force India were flying high in FP2 as well as Perez rounded out the top three.
In the early afternoon session at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton had topped FP1 by one tenth of a second as his 1:43.754 saw him edge Rosberg by 0.141 seconds. He even carried the momentum into Fp2 as he edged Nico on the soft tyres again after a purple lap time of 1:42.524.
Previously Raikkonen and Rosberg both had a spell in the top spot as Nico became the first man to post a 1:42 lap time. As for Kimi, his early pace remained in the 1:43s before he became the first to switch onto the supersofts.
With the option tyres fitted, the Ferrari driver was still unable to better either Mercedes driver’s time. Vettel in the other Scuderia was at least able to split the Silver Arrows before they had used the option tyres around the Yas Marina Circuit.
When Rosberg took on the supersofts, he set the fastest flyer of the day with a 1:41 lap time enough to create a six tenth gap between himself and Ricciardo.
Over the remainder of Fp2 two men fell into that gap as Hamilton nestled home one tenth back, while Perez snuck in four hundredths faster than the Red Bull but five tenths slower than the Mercedes of Hamilton.
The gap between the Silver Arrows at the end was just 0.138, three thousandths of a second less than the gap between Hamilton and Rosberg at the end of the opening practice session.
As for the gap between the Force India’s, Hulkenberg ended the day in eight place with a three tenth gap between himself and Perez. Behind Hulkenberg also came Fernando Alonso as the McLaren driver lifted himself into the top 10, seven places above Button and over a second faster than his British team-mate.
