Putting his upgraded Red Bull ahead of the field on the supersoft tyres, above Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas as Lewis Hamilton missed his chance at a flying lap thanks to yellow flags for Felipe Massa and a red flag when Pascal Wehlrein suffered a heavy head on crash at Turn 11.

From a wet start to a fiery end, Hamilton stormed Silverstone to clinch pole at the British Grand Prix. Lewis’ 67th career pole, and fifth at home, moving the Briton to within one of Michael Schumacher on the all-time list. And placing Lewis in a great spot to clinch his fourth consecutive British Grand Prix win.

As issues struck at Red Bull and Toro Rosso, Ferrari surged to snatch second with Sebastian Vettel. But the pace-setter remained Lewis Hamilton as he followed his opening practice flyer with the fastest afternoon lap, despite reports of a late power issue.

Valtteri Bottas tops a fraught final practice session for Jolyon Palmer, Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel as the British racer retired early with his Renault on fire. While Vettel often sat in the Ferrari pit and Friday pace-setting Max Verstappen parked up late on with engine issues.

The Monaco Grand Prix weekend had eased into action with Lewis Hamilton posting what was the then fastest ever lap around the streets of Monte Carlo. But once the afternoon was underway, times continued to tumble with Sebastian Vettel lowering Daniil Kvyat’s benchmark. While the barriers began to claim their first victims in Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll – two drivers who were yet to ever lap the circuit.

Updates bedded in, data gathered and Fernando Alonso’s McLaren fixed. But Hamilton and Bottas remained fastest after soft tyres were fitted and race simulations began in second practice at the Spanish GP.
Sebastian Vettel secures pole position at the 2017 Russian Grand Prix.
Ever since Russia first gained a championship Grand Prix in 2014, only Mercedes drivers have reached the chequered flag in first position during qualifying or the race. But that all came to an end today, as Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen both out-qualified the Silver Arrows to claim Ferrari’s first front row lock out for nine years.
