Lewis Hamilton topped the mixed conditions start to the US Grand Prix weekend.

Changing conditions welcomed Formula One to Austin, Texas as the teams trialled fresh Pirelli intermediates on a drying COTA track. Initially topped by Valtteri Bottas, but later Lewis Hamilton as Mercedes took the initial benchmark.

Japanese GP Preview | Vettel clear to fight Hamilton at Suzuka

Preview round 16 of the FIA Formula One World Championship, the Japanese Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel is clear to race Lewis Hamilton at the Japanese Grand Prix after Ferrari cleared his Malaysia Grand Prix gearbox of any damage from the post-race shunt with Lance Stroll that cost the Prancing Horse a wheel. Meaning no grid-penalties are guaranteed for the title-chasing German, as he looks to begin a sizeable turnaround at the only figure of eight circuit on the F1 calendar.

Malaysia GP | Verstappen snatches victory from Hamilton, Vettel storms to fourth

Max Verstappen wins the final Malaysia Grand Prix ahead of pole-man Hamilton.

Ferrari went into the race with hopes of a Raikkonen challenge, but those went away with a power unit failure on his way to the grid. Leaving hopes of points being taken away from Hamilton at the feet of Red Bull. A challenge grasped by Verstappen as Red Bull’s race pace outshone the Silver Arrows. While Vettel stormed through the field to recover from his qualifying woes.

Malaysian GP | Hamilton secures pole in disaster qualifying for Vettel

Lewis Hamilton beats Kimi Raikkonen to pole at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Ferrari appeared to have the upper hand coming out of practice, but a storming lap at the start of Q3 saw Lewis Hamilton claim pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Starting the race 19-spots up the order to title-rival, Sebastian Vettel, after the German’s Ferrari suffered a turbo failure early on.

Malaysian GP | Raikkonen on top in FP3, but issues for Vettel

Ferrari remains on top as Raikkonen sets the pace in FP3 at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

At first, Lewis Hamilton appeared to have brought Mercedes back into the race after a less than perfect Friday left the Silver Arrows head scratching. But an error on his flying lap left the old-aero element running Briton down the order whilst Ferrari leapt to the top with a commanding lead. A strong start to the day, until an issue developed late on that left Sebastian Vettel limping back to the pits.

Malaysian GP | Red flagged FP2 topped by Vettel, Grosjean smashes out

Sebastian Vettel tops the times in FP2 at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

As the track presented the first dry running of the weekend, Sebastian Vettel soared to the top ahead of the Red Bulls. Creating a six-tenths margin over his team-mate as the German chases to claw back points in the F1 title race. The session, though, was called short as Romain Grosjean crashed out of the session as a drain cover flicked up and shreaded his rear-right tyre.
